Christina and I’s first Easter together was when we were engaged. We had met spring of 2014, but didn’t spend Easter together until 2015.
It actually turned out to be wild. She was in KC for the weekend and after Easter service, we left to spend time with her family. We took both of our vehicles back to Oklahoma and I followed her in my vehicle. I swear she would always take that drive fast. Well somewhere in Kansas, still not far from KC, she was a decent way ahead, and I began passing a car on my right. They ended up turning into my lane without putting on a blinker. They didn’t see me in their blind spot. So they started pulling into my lane. And Christina always got on to me for never using my horn. That wasn’t even in my mind. Instead, I tried to pull into the median, but either the grass or the bumps that warn people they are exiting ended up kicking me back out. I hit the left tail of their car and I kid you not, a James Bond car flip happened. They barrel rolled, I did a 360. I quickly pulled over, got out of my car, and ran over to help them get out of their car. I don’t know how, but it was an elderly couple who ended up with the only injury being a scratched thumb from the man. Both cars badly totaled.
But then I looked up and saw Christina running down the median to see if I was alright. She saw the wreck in her rear view mirror. That moment plays in my mind a lot. I could see on her face how much she cared for me. Crazy thing about all this is I can’t remember how I ended up getting home 😂
8 more Easters we would have together, but not a ninth.
But here is the deal, it would be the biggest waste if I didn’t tell you that this Easter I would consider special. Christina gets to experience eternity with Jesus because of the resurrection.
“But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming,”
1 Corinthians 15:20, 23 NASB1995
On this Easter, I want you reading this to know that you can experience the hope of the resurrection now! Romans 10:13 says that all those who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.
I still have pain. I still mourn. But I will always have hope. Maybe moreso now than even before.
And you can have hope too! Trust Jesus today.
