“Mommy Can Clean It”

Ramsey playing with toys and making a mess

I literally had just sat down on the couch and thought, I need to write a little. Then Ramsey walks over and said “I got sand on me, daddy!” Pops got him kinetic sand and he LOVES playing with it. He proceeds to wipe the sand off his knees and onto the rug.

“Don’t get that all over the rug, buddy, it’s hard to clean up.”

“Mommy can clean it.”

Ugh… I know conversations with Ramsey now are only the beginning of many to come. The most difficult part is that at his age he doesn’t fully understand.

I shared that mommy can’t clean it because she isn’t coming back. She’s with Jesus in heaven.

“Does mommy have a car? She can drive back.”

“Well, in heaven you don’t need cars because you are where you need to be.”

“She will come back.”

And I’m left feeling helpless. I just shared with him that I miss mommy so much and asked him if he does too. And he said yes.

And all the while, he just kept on playing with his sand.

Thank you again for praying for us and walking with us. And pray for these conversations in the future. That I don’t shy away from the difficult things, but allow him to process in his time.

  3. What a blessing from God that children of Ramsey’s age to be spared the full reality of such a loss as you’ve both experienced. Unfortunately, we as adults are not as blessed, BUT we DO have a blessed assurance that our ever loving Lord, during times such as these, proves Himself SO VERY faithful to His promise to walk alongside us on this dark and lonely journey.
So thankful that you and Ramsey have each other, and that Jesus Christ has you both securely in His strong and comforting embrace.
